Jaynes Gastropub News for July 27: NYC Reubens, Tempier Rose', Fried Chicken and SD Magazine Best Of Nod

The party has been in full swing at Jaynes recently and we're keeping it going this week with the classic Jaynes Pastrami Reuben. Growing up, Jon often took the metro north train from Westport, CT in to the city and headed straight for one of two places. Uptown for Carnegie Deli or downtown to Katz's Deli for a Pastrami Reuben on Rye.

In our estimation there is little more comforting than Hot Pastrami, Sauerkraut, melted Swiss Cheese and Thousand Island Dressing on Rye bread. At Jaynes we get the classic preparation just right, with Niman Ranch Pastrami, Bread and Cie Corn Rye, house made zucchini pickles and our hand-cut kennebec french fries. We will be serving this little taste of East Coast heaven Tuesday-Thursday this week for just $13.50

Our Fried Chicken was such a smash hit last week that we are now featuring it on Wednesday nights. Buttermilk Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes, Collard greens and Southern style Corn Bread. $16.50 Every Wednesday.

In Wine News we are now pouring with 2009 Domaine Tempier Rose' from the Bandol region of Provence France. This is the benchmark still rose' by which all others are measured and is drinking beautifully right now. We are very fortunate and excited to be pouring this wine.

The issue hits stands this week, but word on the street is that Jaynes was voted San Diego's most romantic restaurant by San Diego Magazine. We very much appreciate the nod(although best burger wouldn't have been too off the mark either ; )

We hope to see everyone this week!

Football is Coming... And so is Rosie's Annual Chili Cookoff!!!

So, it's that time of year again... The weather cools, the leaves change colors.... er, well maybe not in San Diego! But the pigskins will be flyin' and that means its time for Rosie O'Grady's Annual Chili Contest. All perspective chili chefs are encouraged to break out your giant pots and dust off your wooden spoons.

The format will change slightly this year to allow for more contestants and even better judging. During every Sunday Night Football game we will showcase 2 batches of chili for all in attendance to enjoy and judge. At the end of the season, the top 5 will compete for the coveted prize and title of Chili Champion.

Come in and sign-up with any bartender soon, so you are sure to get the game you want! The list fills up fast and we have a lot of fun with this. If you don't want to make chili for the masses, come in every sunday evening for a drink and a bowl (of chili, of course!). Let your opinion be heard... YOU be the judge!

Southern Nights! Fried Chicken, Bulleit Bourbon and Blues @jaynesgastropub Tuesday-Thursday

We've been spending a lot of time with Jon's family this week in town from the east coast and talking a lot about grandmother Nellie Knight and her family from south Georgia. We heard amazing stories of the family emigration from Scotland in the 1750s, fighting for the revolution in CT, "Cripple John Knight" limping all the home after defeat at Appommatox and uncle Jack being shot down in the pacific during WWII. A tough bunch, no doubt. Its always great when the family can get together and share our history.

In honor of the Knight family this week we are celebrating

"Southern Nights" Tuesday-Thursday:

-Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Mashed Potatoes, Collard Greens and Southern Corn Bread $16.50

We've done this dish before and its always a huge hit. We're adding some real cornbread to the dish.

-Bulleit Kentucky Bourbon Cocktails for just $6. To whet the whistle and get the front porch style conversation flowing we will be featuring our house favorite, Bulleit Bourbon.
Erik and Brandon will be featuring some great southern drinks with Bulleit and for the citified among you, will also be making classic Bourbon cocktails like the Manhattan, Old fashioned, etc...

-Jon's all Country, R&B, Soul & Blues Playlist from Allen Toussaint to Waylon Jennings, Muddy Waters and maybe even a little Skynyrd, Ooh That Smell...

We hope to see you all this week. Its gonna be a good one!

Southern nights have you ever felt a
Southern night free as a breeze
Not to mention the trees
Whistling tunes that you know and love so
