This
event was so popular in September, we needed to repeat it in October!
Please join us for a night featuring California's second oldest winery!
Gun-Bun as it's affectionately know, is the oldest family owned winery

Havilah Rand and Scott Samuels Saturday Aug 3rd 7pm ArtLab Studios
Havilah Rand
Began her music career at the age of 6 when she began composing songs on an old piano given to her family by some friends. Heavily influenced early on by James Taylor, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Rolling Stones, The Police and a wide range of other styles, Havilah's songs immediately took on an identity of their own. Havilah's soulful and passionate vocal style would lead her to Interlochen Arts Academy and then on to Manhattan School of Music where she would train formally in both jazz and classical technique. Songwriting remained her true love and she soon left New York City for Seattle where she fronted pop-rock band Wish before picking up the guitar and moving on to a solo career of touring and recording. Havilah's first three albums were recorded in the Pacific Northwest where she fell into a tight knit community of artists and musicians. After a years of touring regionally and nationally for over a decade, Havilah moved to Europe in 2006 where she was warmly welcomed in Ireland, the UK and Mediterranean. She departed Barcelona wistfully in 2007 to relocate to the Live Music Capital of the World Austin, TX where she now lives. She has earned herself a steady audience and a respected name in a town where the caliber of musicianship is nothing less than stellar. "A High Wave" is a compilation of original songs inspired by a life of walking the road less traveled and expressing the deepest of thought and emotion through music.
Scott Samuels - Solo Acoustic Powerpop
A 25-year veteran of San Diego’s rock music scene, and a nationally recognized power-pop songwriter, former Roxy Monoxide front man Scott Samuels is a rock and roll survivor with lots of stories to tell. Samuels’ love for rock and roll’s “hidden treasure”, and his unique ability to recount the quirkiest milestones of life, love and career, has fueled his songwriting and performances. As SLAMM Magazine once said, he definitely “knows his way around a pop hook” – and back again. His simple, honest and unpretentious vocal style has drawn comparisons to Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum and Elvis Costello, among others. Samuels is now mining the rich history of his musical past and present with his first solo release, “Great Big World”, and acoustic performances throughout the country

Vice Squad of Passion Opening Saturday March 23rd 7pm at ArtLab Studios
Most of Marilyn's work has grown out of a reaction to minimalism and conceptualism. Robert Ryman and Allen Ruppersberg are two very strong influences on my work. Also, Andy Warhol’s appropriation of common household objects also influenced my decision to interpret newspapers as art objects. What I have done is invert his process. Instead of making multiples, I take a mass produced object and make a singular work of art influenced by it. My work is holistic since it has an emphasis on craft and technique along with a strong conceptual impulse in an attempt to move the emotions of others. In other words, my work deliberately has mind, body and soul aspects and is meant to engage viewers beyond their visual sensations or intellectual needs. Drawing is the most primal form of my expression and easily the most deeply integral to my creative process. Drawing is as vital & as necessary as breathing. Drawing in pen & ink is the tightrope of art. It can work or it can be a colossal mess. I have come to savor the unintentional blotches and smears as vital to the final visual image. Ink reminds me to find a way to work with every possibility.
The work currently being shown includes many pieces never seen before in San Diego County from two different series. One series is called, "An Exhortation to Passion". The works are meant to galvanize a person into loving with all of their energy, thereby inspiring others not to take things for granted. These works are primarily done with oil paint, fabric and found objects on canvas

Tour de Fat 2012 San Diego
Hold on tight, San Diego, we’re headed back for another round! New Belgium Brewing’s cycling circus, Tour de Fat, is coming to town for one day on Saturday, September 29 at Golden Hill Park. Tour de Fat rookies and veterans alike are encouraged to grab a bike and join us for a whimsical day of entertainment and two-wheeled revelry, all while raising money for San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and San Diego Mountain Bike Association.
For those who haven’t experienced Tour de Fat, it is a thrilling rite of passage that includes an unparalleled costumed bicycle parade, New Belgium beer, eccentric entertainment, local food, unusual bike contests and much more.
The free event, which raises money for local nonprofits through beer and merchandise purchases, just exceeded the $2 million mark for total funds raised since its inception 13 years ago. Last year’s San Diego Tour de Fat festival raised nearly $21,250 and had about 3,000 attendees.
The Bike Parade begins at 11 am from Golden Hill Park, but be there early to register.

PARK(ing) Day 2012 = Success
Once we got the turf, benches, trees, chairs and games set up it was time for a great dat. Even with the heat we had a great day out on Adams Ave. Hopefully next year will be cooler and bigger. Thanks to everyone who stopped by. And a huge thanks to SEZIO for making it happen.
Gotta say, it sure was a lot nicer sitting in BLAH and looking out at kids playing and neighbors mingling instead of the typical 3-4 ugly cars.
