My Goodness, My Christmas, It's Guinness! $3 Pints Until 2010 at Jaynes Gastropub

What better has come from the Emerald Isle than U2 or Daniel Day Lewis? Guinness. I think if I only could have one beer for the rest of my life it would be this one. Think about it, It's got great flavor, it's not too hoppy, not too malty, has a nice creamy texture and it's low in alcohol, 4 or 4.5 percent, so I can drink a lot of it. Guinness began way back in 1759 when Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000 year lease for an empty four acre brewery at St. James Gate in Dublin. The space was bought for 100 pounds with and annual rent of 45 pounds. Still today, after 250 years of history, Guinness poured in Great Britain, Ireland, and North American, comes from the St. James Gate Brewery. An astonishing 1.8 billion pints of Guinness are sold every year. That's 1 beer for every three people in the world.

In celebration of Guinness' 250th anniversary and the holiday season, we are pouring 20 oz Imperial pints of Guinness all December through to the New Year for $3. That's right, $3, all the time until 2010. With our new nitro/direct draw system you are guaranteed a perfect creamy pint, every time. So head on over to Jaynes and get your Guinness. I'll try my best to make one of those cute little clovers in the beer for you. author: eric

Sunday, December 13th
15% of all the days sales plus all proceeds from raffle will go to help support The Storefront and Street Outreach programs at the SDYS.

SDYS will have people there for the day and evening answering questions and handing out information and will sell raffle tickets.

The Storefront -- Emergency Shelter for Youth
A 20-bed emergency shelter and the only one in San Diego specifically designed for homeless, runaway and “street” youth. Its goals are to return young people to their families or to find alternative living arrangements and to prevent their sexual exploitation. Services begin with Street Outreach teams that find and offer resources to homeless young people. The Storefront Day Drop-In Center provides street kids with a safe place between the end of the school day and the opening of the night shelter.
Street Outreach
More than 2,500 youth are seen annually out on the streets by the Outreach Team. As part of The Storefront's mission, outreach workers search the streets of San Diego six nights every week in search of homeless children, providing them with survival information, warm clothing, something to eat, and an opportunity to get off the streets.

SAN DIEGO BEER WEEK

America’s #1 Beer City Hosts Its First Beer Week
San Diego, CA – October 9, 2009

Recently named the top beer city in the country by Men’s Journal, San Diego is hosting it’s first-ever San Diego Beer Week this November 6th-15th, 2009. “San Diego Beer Week is a 10-day event showcasing the amazing craft beer we have in this city,” says Colby Chandler, San Diego Brewers Guild President.

San Diego is one of the country’s first cities to embrace a Beer Week, following the successful model first set forth by Philadelphia and later San Francisco. With more than 33 working breweries in the county, San Diego is anticipating a prosperous inaugural event and hopes to bring attention to the region’s burgeoning beer tourism industry.

“Not only are we working with local bars and restaurants for beer week,” says Adam Carbonell, San Diego Brewers Guild representative, “we’ve set up great partnerships with local hotels to bring in people from out of town.” Special room rates are available through San Diego Beer Week’s website, including offers for Hotel Solamar located in the heart of San Diego’s Historic Gaslamp Quarter, Lafayette Hotel near 30th Street in North Park, and Town & Country centrally located in Mission Valley.

San Diego Beer Week kicks off with the VIP Session of the San Diego Brewers Guild Festival on Friday, November 6th, followed by two general admission sessions on Saturday November 7th, 2009, at the World Beat Center in Balboa Park. The Guild Festival is the largest gathering of local craft breweries featuring more than 80 beers brewed in San Diego County. Allied member restaurants will be at the event serving small bites to pair with the beers.

There are currently more than 100 events planned for San Diego Beer Week, with new events added daily. “We are encouraging breweries to push the envelope and create events with places not typically associated with craft beer. We know we’ll have support from beer enthusiasts, but we want to reach people who might not know about San Diego’s craft beer scene,” says Chandler.

Some of the week’s highlights include: Ten Year Lineup of Stone Imperial Russian Stout at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens, Third Annual Barrel Tasting Night with Lost Abbey, homebrew classes with Ballast Point/Homebrewmart, Belgian Beer Dinner at the Quarter Kitchen, Beer & Cheese pairing class at Great News Cooking School with Karl Strauss and Venissimo Cheese, Green Flash 7th Anniversary Party, and First-Fling Frisbee Golf Tournament with Hamilton’s Tavern.

San Diego Beer Week will conclude with a Chef’s Celebration of Beer on Sunday November 15th, 2009. The Chef’s Celebration event teams up local chefs with San Diego Breweries to create unique beer and food pairings. The event also includes seminars on sensory analysis, how to pair beer and food, and other craft beer related issues presented by local brewers.

San Diego Beer Week takes place from Friday, November 6th through Sunday, November 15th, 2009. Events will be hosted countywide, with new events posted frequently on the official San Diego Beer Week website. For information about San Diego Beer Week, including complete event listings, sponsors, public transportation, and accommodations, please visit the official website, http://sdbw.org.

Farmers Market.....

Four years since the seeds were sown, a neighborhood farmers market for Normal Heights and Kensington is closer to being launched, if an unusual deal between Caltrans and the city of San Diego bears fruit.

“We picked a great site for the neighborhood, and we went to the city for permits and discovered that Caltrans controls the right of way,” said Larry Teves, president of the Adams Avenue Business Association's board of directors. “Caltrans does not allow vending, so we had to come up with a different approach.”

The solution? Caltrans has agreed to relinquish the right of way to the city, which will then issue the needed permits for the farmers market, according to state officials. The market has a soft launch date of March, as Caltrans finalizes the transfer of the site on 40th Street just south of Adams Avenue, next to the southbound Interstate 15 on-ramp.

Plans call for the market to be open from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays. The proposed site is next to a neighborhood pocket park with children's play areas, seats in the shade, swings and picnic tables — and restrooms.

Neighborhood residents, including Mike Magers and his family, say they...Read More
